Police are assisting a gentleman who has lost his war medals when attending Remembrance Day at the cenotaph in Lilydale.

The clutch of three medals were in his jacket pocket as he got out of the car near BWS and the Olinda Creek Hotel.

Upon exiting the car or on walking to the service, the medals have been dropped between 10am and 11am.

Lilydale RSL secretary Chris Newell posted to social media pleading for the medals to be handed to police.

“John [Nolan] is deaf, caused during his service, and would not have heard them fall. He is obviously very distraught and wants to find them as quickly as possible,” the post read.

“The medals will be engraved on the edge with Johns name and service number.”

If the medals are located, they can be handed to any police station.
