Child killed in Coldstream collision

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a second fatal collision in Coldstream since Christmas after two vehicles are believed to have collided head-on on the Maroondah Highway just after 4pm on Friday 5 January.

A primary school aged child from one of the vehicles sadly died at the scene.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson also said a woman believed to be in her 20s was treated for lacerations and taken to Maroondah Hospital in a stable condition.

“A man believed to be in his 40s was treated for multiple injuries and taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition,” they said.

“A primary school aged child was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious condition.”

The two other occupants in the same vehicle as the fatality were the woman in her 20s and the other primary school aged child.

The circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing.

The Maroondah Highway was closed between Melba Highway and St Huberts Road for some time while detectives from MCIU processed the scene, with traffic diverted via St Huberts Road and the Melba Highway in Yering.
