Croydon teenager restrained by homeowner after aggravated burglary

A Croydon teenager has been taken into police custody for aggravated burglary after the homeowner made a citizens arrest.

Police were told the teen was disturbed while rummaging around the kitchen area of the Niel Street Croydon home shortly after 2am on Friday 3 June.

When confronted by the female resident of the home the 17-year-old male grabbed one of the kitchen knives and demanded phones and cash.

The commotion woke the male occupant of the home who chased after the teen when he dropped the knife and ran into the rear yard.

The resident scuffled with the boy until police arrived and took the Croydon teen into custody.

He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The residents of the home weren’t physically injured in the incident.

It is expected the teen will be interviewed in relation to aggravated burglary and armed robbery.
