Round 3 saw only two junior games played across the club due to another week of bad weather, with all Friday night and Saturday afternoon cricket called off by the respective associations.
On Saturday morning, the U16-3s team took on Glen Waverley at Lilydale Reserve. After losing the toss on a dewy and wet oval, Lilydale bowled first and shared the ball around to give everyone in the team a bowl.
This was the first two day game in over two years which was a welcome return to the longer format.
Wickets were shared around, Darcey Barker with pick of the bowlers taking 3/19. Michael Fisken (1/12), Bryn Ballagh (1/8), Cameron Thompson (1/17), Caleb Uerata (1/23) and Angus Smith (1/15) each took 1 wicket.
Glen Waverley ended up all out for 188, with Lilydale to conduct their run chase next week.
On Sunday morning, Lilydale’s Stage 1 girls team took on Ainslie Park/Croydon Ranges at Lilydale Reserve. Lilydale lost the toss and were sent in to bat.
All the girls got a decent hit, facing around 17 balls each – learning a lot from their second game together. The team total was 8/66.
In reply, the opposition made 4/119 – with Harriette Newton (1/11) and Charli Doughty (1/6) each taking 1 wicket.
With some better weather expected during this week, the club is hoping to see all junior and senior teams back on the park on the weekend.
Lilydale is also starting the Woolworths Junior Blast program in the coming weeks (ages 5-8), so please get in touch if interested in getting your child involved. More details can be found at www.lilydalecricketclub.com.au.
