Council meeting preview for 23 November

Yarra Ranges Council will meet for the second time since new mayor Jim Child was elected into the seat with quite a full agenda.

Lilydale residents may be interested in tuning into the online council meeting tonight to hear from councillors as they decide whether two planning applications for McComb Street are approved or denied.

The properties at number 17 and 21 have each had planning applications put forward to build 13 dwellings on each block.

A number of objections were received by the council, which has led to the decision falling into councillors hands.

The planning application YR-2021/562 for 17 McComb Street had 46 objections submitted, while the application YR-2020/951 for 21 McComb Street had 42 objections. A petition was also signed by 39 people and submitted to the council.

Proposed for the blocks of land are 13 two storey units, some with single garages, others with double garages.

Changes to the housing landscape of this street has already occurred with a number of 1940s houses being redeveloped into subdivided blocks or with multiple units being erected.

Construction of 13 dwellings at 19 McComb Street of very similar visual appearance and structure are currently being built, while Baker, Blair and Slevin Streets have also had similar, albeit less dwellings, built recently.

The items are listed as 7.3 and 7.4 on the Business Paper of the council agenda.

Other items on the agenda include the July to September financial report, annual financial statement and intention to levy special charges across the shire.

The meeting will get underway at 7pm on 23 November.
